Fall is the best time to plant perennials as it gives them the most time to establish themselves before the high stresses of summer heat.? Good news: we have some limited quantities of great, wildlife-friendly native plants and shrubs still available for sale at discounted prices.? Grasses and Wildflowers

Coastal Panic Grass (Panicum amarum), gallon pots? - $7 each, or 3 for $21This is a great drought-tolerant ornamental grass for sunny spots.? Use it as an accent or plant in masses.? More info    Wild Blue Indigo (Baptisia australis), quart pots - $5 each, or 3 for $13A late spring blooming wildflower that after a few years grows to more shrub-like proportions in bright sun or part shade.? Beautiful stalks of purplish blue flowers attract pollinators, and the seeds provide food for birds in the summer and fall.? It's also a nitrogen fixing plant.? This is a bullet-proof, easy to grow native. More info  Coral Honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens), quart pots - $5 each, or 3 for $13Much more manageable than the invasive Japanese variety, this vine produces red flowers that attract hummingbirds throughout the summer.? Can handle part shade, but produces the most flowers in full sun.? It needs a structure or fence to climb on, and can reach heights of up to $30 feet.? More info

Trees and Shrubs

Paw Paw (Asimina triloba), 3 gallon pot? - $20A small understory tree that is a host plant to several native butterfly species.? It also produces a delicious, custardy fruit that's been likened to bananas.? Warning: you do need two genetically distinct specimens to produce fruit, and we have only one tree available.? More info  High Bush Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum), 3 gallon pots - $26 or 2 for $49Everybody loves blueberries!? These are gorgeous shrubs with spring flowers, fall color, attractive architectural branches, and of course, delicious fruits.? At least two plants are needed to produce fruit, and they do require acid soils, which, if you don't naturally have them, can be created in several ways.? More infoSweet Fern (Comptonia peregrina), 1 gallon pots - $13Not actually a fern, but a colony-forming shrub with sweet smelling, fern-like leaves.? Acts as a great tall groundcover, and makes a good companion plant for blueberries, but can adapt to wider soil conditions.? More infoSOLD OUT - Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana), 2 gallon pots - $15 A small tree/large shrub, they form unique looking yellow flowers in the fall, sometimes even blooming into the winter.? In the wild, they're a forest understory tree, so they can take a fair amount of shade, but they will do well in full sun as well.? More info
