Last-Minute Planting

Everything's winding down in our yard for the winter, but that doesn't mean there isn't time to get a few more plants in the ground.? On Saturday, Lindsay and I were at the NJ Native Plant Society's annual conference and picked up a few new additions from the folks at Wild Ridge, including a couple of wild geraniums (Geranium maculatum, pictured above).? I love the leaves, and I'm looking forward to the late spring purple flowers.Fall planting is great, because even though the plants go dormant pretty much right away, the roots will keep growing as long as the soil is above 40 degrees.? That means come spring they'll have a great head start on new plantings and will need a lot less watering.Save
