White Turtlehead - Chelone glabra
A quintessential rain garden plant, white turtlehead gets its common name from the shape of the flowers. Pretty dang cute little image there. It blooms from late summer into fall, and prefers moist or wet soil. It does fine in full sun, but prefers a little shade.
It is a host plant to several butterfly and moth caterpillars, including the Baltimore Checkerspot. If you have kids, consider purchasing the lovely book, The Puddle Garden, from Wild Ridge plants. This one is featured alongside many other excellent natives.
